This figural dog brooch is the famous Chinese Foo Dog. The Foo Dog originated in China and is known as the Happiness or Celestial Dog. Foochow is the city the dog gets it's name from and the ancestry can be traced back over 3000 years. This breed's primary duties were hunting, working and protecting the family. This magnificent brooch has some of the best enamel you may ever see. The setting is silver vermeil with vivid colors of aqua, dark blue, orange and green. The dog's belly looks to be inlaid white jade and he has turquoise cabochons on his back and top of his head. The silver vermeil has aged to a golden patina and the Chinese hallmarks can be found at the base of his tail.
